Greg Dick is Co-Founder and CEO of Open Quantum Design, a Waterloo-based non-profit developing an open-source trapped-ion quantum computer. His work is guided by a conviction that strategic technologies should be open and interoperable by design: that a country’s ability to see inside, adapt and build on its critical systems is a precondition for sovereignty. He writes and speaks internationally on how open approaches can strengthen the research-industry-government connection and help Canada and like-minded allies turn scientific leadership into durable economic and strategic capability.
Greg spent 17 years in senior leadership at Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, where he built programs linking frontier research with educators, industry and the public. He began his career as a secondary physics teacher and is the author of several physics textbooks, a background that continues to shape his focus on talent as the foundation of any technology strategy.
Beyond OQD, he works with quantum startups as an advisor and investor, contributes to Canadian quantum policy discussions, and has helped build collaborative networks across the Indo-Pacific, including through Canada–Singapore quantum engagement and the APEC Business Advisory Council. He also founded RESILIENT, a consultancy built on a simple thesis: true diversity is how resilience gets baked into an organization. He is based in Waterloo, Ontario.
