AI and Quantum Initiative

Canada helped build the foundations of modern artificial intelligence and holds a serious position in quantum research. The harder step is converting that research into companies, products and industrial capacity, which is where technological strength becomes national capability and, eventually, sovereignty.

The Initiative pairs Canada’s research base with trusted partners whose strengths are complementary. Singapore anchors the first program: strategically connected across the Indo-Pacific, and strong in commercialization, investment, digital governance and connectivity to ASEAN. Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Germany and the UK are among the partners the work extends to from there. The work has three parts: policy and governance, partnership development, and commercialization, which industry leads and CSS organizes.

The work is practical from the start. The first program is a Canada–Singapore corridor for AI and quantum, built on industry partnerships that already exist and tested on real projects before anything scales. Much of that is working out what makes a partnership trusted, from cybersecurity to export rules. The structure is designed to grow into a wider network of advanced-technology partners across the Indo-Pacific and Europe as the Initiative matures.
